First ESP mock

My notepad notes from a mock ESP. (These are notes made before the ESP below).



 The front till is connected, as the default gateway is

192.168.1.1, the default gateway to the office computer

is 192.168.1.254. The office computer isn't connected,

meaning we need the office computer to have the same

default gateway as the front till.


How we would fix it would be:


  • Press windows + R
  • Type 'control panel'
  • Go to network and internet
  • Then click network and sharing center
  • Now click change adapter settings
  • Right click the ethernet icon and select 'properties' 
  • Now double click 'Internet Protocol Version 4'
  • Select the default gateway and change the default

          gateway to 192.168.1.1

  • Click 'ok'


Go on a random website to check connection e.g

speedtest.

The problem/issue: 

The problem I have found was that the default gateway for the front till is different compared to the office computer. I can see that the front till is working perfectly fine, whereas the office computer isn’t. The whole point of a default gateway is to allow the device/piece of equipment to connect to the internet. We can see that the front till is connected to the internet, but the office computer isn’t. 

 

The Solution 

What we need to do is get the office computer’s default gateway to the same as the front till’s default gateway.  

 

 

This symbol means there is no internet connection: 

 

 

Steps to fix the default gateway would be: 

  1. Press windows ‘r’, it gives you this: 

 

 

 

  1. Type control panel in the open window, it will send you to the control panel: 

 

 

 

 

  1. Go to network and internet: 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  1. Then click network and sharing centre: 

 

  1. Now click change adapter settings, you can see it on the left of the screen: 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  1. Right click the ethernet icon and select ‘properties’, it’s at the bottom of the panel: 

 

 

 

  1. Double click ‘Internet protocol version 4’. Make sure you press ‘Use the following IP address’. 

 

  1. Select the default gateway and change the default gateway to, 192.168.1.1. Then click ‘ok’. 

 

 

 

Finally, try connecting to the internet to see if the office computer works fine like the front till.
