 VPN’s

What is a VPN?

A VPN is an abbreviated term for a virtual private network. A VPN is a mechanism for creating a secure connection between a computing device and a computer network, or between two networks. A VPN encrypts all the traffic coming to and leaving your device to keep your online activities private, even from your ISP, (internet service provider). This means all your data is encrypted and routed through the VPN’s server, so nobody sees what you're doing online.

Different types of VPN

There are multiple different types of VPN. There is also an array of applications for VPN’s.

  • Remote access VPN – A remote access VPN connects specific computers or other devices to a private network as supposed to linking entire locations together via gateways.

  • Site to site VPN – A site to site VPN refers to a connection set up between multiple networks. This could be a corporate network where multiple offices work together or a branch office network with a central office and multiple branch locations.

  • Cloud VPN - A cloud virtual private network (cloud VPN) is a form of technology designed to help users access their organization's applications, data, and files through a website or an application. Unlike traditional or static VPNs, a cloud VPN provides a secure connection that can be rapidly deployed globally.
